Carnaval

We’re officially finished with February!  The month flew by, I think that’s cuz we only had to work with 28 days haha.  This week was a lot less exciting than the last.  Thanks to the Carnaval celebrations here, we were locked up in the house for the last part of the week.  So we did a whole lot of nothing.

I think the only newsworthy thing was that we had to go to the bus terminal at 4 am Wednesday morning to pick up the new missionaries here in Tupiza.  One of the awful duties of being a zone leader haha.  We had to wake up at like 3:30, get bundled up cuz it’s a little chilly in the mornings, and walk about 15 minutes to the Terminal to pick them up.  Then we had to drop them off at their houses, and then we got back to bad.  Not very exciting at all I know, just wanted you all to know that we get stuff with those types of jobs.

And aside from that, just Carnaval.  Here in Tupiza it started on Saturday, and they do not mess around, they party hard here!  They had like a big parade that started at noon, with just tons of groups of people dancing in traditional outfits, bands playing flutes and smashing on drums, every kid in the street with giant squirt guns and water balloons and foam spray, it was nuts!  And they didn’t end till like 1 in the morning!  And as luck would have it, we live right on the street where the parade passes.  We just stayed inside the whole day though, President’s orders.  But we did have to leave to eat dinner, and man it was just chaos.  It was so loud with all the drums and the singing and all that.  Like it was so loud that it was disorienting!  It was crazy stressful!  But we survived, so all is good.

Yesterday they did the same thing.  Another huge parade, basically the same thing, all over again.  This time we went out on our roof and watched, we couldn’t handle being inside anymore.  So we just watched from up there, taking pics and just hanging out.  So it was fun.  Its crazy to see the culture difference, cuz in the States, we don’t have a party that comes close to Carnaval.  Which is a downer, we totally should!  It looks mad fun, I would have loved to got it on it, but…. We couldn’t.

So that’s the week!  Tonight me and my comp have to take a 6 hour bus to Potosí, then at 5 am take another 3 hour bus to Sucre, and be at the airport by 9 to fly to Cochabamba.  We have our monthly Leadership Council, so this week I will be back in Cocha, till about Thursday.  Wish me luck!
